Basic Acne Solutions for Teenagers

Acne is a skin problem that affects all teens at some point of time. The condition is considered as a normal part of puberty. Acne can be devastating for teenagers as it often leads to poor self-esteem and low confidence. There are few things one must consider when it comes to acne.

Teenage Skin is Actually Adult Skin:

Once you enter in puberty, your skin becomes the skin you will have as an adult. Contrary to common misconception, acne is not a “teenage” problem. No doubt it may become a little overactive during the teenage years, but people who have acne will have for lifetime. More than 50% of adults complain of suffering from acne, with just a few exceptions, developed it in early adulthood. Special care should be taken while treating acne-prone skin. It should be treated just like adult skin.
Hygiene or Diet is Not Responsible for Acne Occurrence:
Poor hygiene or diet does not cause acne. No doubt it can make the problem worse, but it is not the root cause of the problem. Bacteria are the culprit here. You need to get rid of the bacteria to get rid of the acne.

Oily Skin can be Prone to Acne, but Acne Prone Skin may not always Oily:

There is a common misconception that drying out skin with acne will help. But the truth is it is only going to hurt the skin, which is already dry. All types of skin need to be moisturized. Our skin is majorly water, the more you keep it hydrated, the healthier it will become.

There is No Magic Wand:

Treating acne is not going to be a one day task. Nobody has got a magic wand. So don’t expect results overnight. You need to be patient and consistent with whichever treatment you choose. And don’t get disheartened if you witness acne breakout from time to time, and it definitely doesn’t mean that the treatment is not working. Just as any other body part, the skin is living and breathing, and there are times when it doesn’t behave as well as we would like.

Good Cleanser & Moisturizer Can Do Wonders:

Using a good cleanser and moisturizer can dramatically improve your skin condition. Make sure you choose them keeping in mind your skin type. You should cleanse and moisturize your skin at least twice in a day. Don’t forget to use sunblock before going out in the sun.
Choosing a right formula is important, but proper application is vital for success.
Cleansing your skin twice a day can help you treat your acne quicker. However, over-cleansing can make the skin condition worse. The drier your skin become, the more bacteria can grow, resulting in more acne breakouts. Cleanse your skin with warm water lukewarm water. Don’t rub your skin too hard. Apply a good moisturizing cream after cleansing. Choose the one that suits your skin type. Moisturizing your skin is very important even if your skin is oily. Wash your skin with lukewarm water daily in the morning using good friction. Apply your moisturizer.
